The Top 5 Benefits of Living in Beaumont
Explore Beaumont- With the large number of great communities in the Edmonton area, you might wonder why you should consider moving somewhere outside the city limits. However, Beaumont is a great little community that’s perfect for those looking for a quieter lifestyle. Blending affordability and convenience, you’ll soon see why this could be a great choice for your family.

Beaumont is Growing Up!(And Out...)

Despite the fact that Beaumont is not a new destination, it is nevertheless experiencing significant development. In fact, it's Canada's fifth fastest-growing community! What does this signify for you? On one hand, it allows you to have a significant impact on the community's face and build connections. Rapid growth also almost always bodes well for housing prices and demand for property should you ever decide to sell.

The Aqua-Fit Centre in Beaumont is a popular destination for people of all ages at any time of year. There's a pool (and lessons for the youngsters), ice skating, group fitness sessions, and more available. If you prefer to enjoy nature instead of being indoors, you may journey to the Four Seasons Park, which has walking paths. This year also starts the opening of Beaumont's new softball/baseball complex on the West end of city, along with the new off leash dog park!

French Language Opportunities

There are few places in Alberta who have a stronger connection to the French language than Beaumont. There are a lot of French immersion schools in this town, owing to its French Canadian history (it began as a french colony in 1895). Approximately 75 to 80 percent of all education is delivered in French, with English instruction beginning in third grade. Students from both the English and French programs are able to mix for extracurricular classes like gym.

Beaumont's Growing Retail Shopping Market

People love Beaumont because it feels like a small town, but you'll be happy to know that it still has all the convenience you need. There are a number of stores nearby, including things like the Montalet Shopping Centre, Sobey’s, and Shoppers Drug Mart. There are new developments housing great businesses like Bake my Day and Buster's Pizza, along with Sea Change Brewing and the Painted Door for all of your local needs. If you’re looking for something more robust, the Premium Outlet Mall is only a 12 minute drive away in Nisku.

Quality Homes That Don't Break The Bank

Many families are concerned about being able to afford a home. That's why Beaumont is a great place to build your home. You'll save money on your monthly bills, and you'll be able to add more features to your home since you're getting more for your money.

Community Events

When you move to Beaumont, you won't have to travel into Edmonton to enjoy some quality time with your family. The city has a number of events planned throughout the year to help you feel more involved in the community. Family Day, for example, features acts and activities that will appeal to children of all ages. It's wonderful to have! 2022 also marks a change to Beaumont Days from Town & Country Days.

What Makes Beaumont's Garbage and Recycables Program Work?

Explore Beaumont - The City of Beaumont operates a garbage collection program for all residences within the city limits. The garbage bin program is an automated service that is provided to residents at no additional cost. The garbage bins are emptied on a regular schedule and residents are responsible for putting their garbage out for collection in accordance with the schedule.

The City of Beaumont has a number of programs in place to help residents reduce their garbage output and recycle more. The city offers a free residential recycling program that allows residents to recycle a variety of materials, including paper, plastic, metal, and glass. The city also operates a composting program that helps residents reduce their organic waste.

In addition to these programs, the City of Beaumont has partnered with the company Smart Saavy Green to provide residents with a free smart saavy green app. This app allows residents to track their recycling and composting progress, learn about the benefits of recycling and composting, and find local recycling and composting facilities.

The Beaumont blue bag recycling program is a great way for residents to recycle their garbage. By using the blue bags, residents can recycle glass, metal, and plastic items. The blue bags make it easy to recycle these items, and they also help to keep beaumont clean.

The City of Beaumont offers an organics cart program for residents to dispose of organic waste. The program is available to all residents within the city limits, and there is no extra charge for using the service. The program is designed to help residents reduce the amount of garbage they produce, and to help keep the city clean and green.

The organics cart program works by providing residents with a small cart that they can use to dispose of their organic waste. The cart is collected, and the waste is then taken to a local composting facility where it is processed and turned into compost. Composting is a process that helps to break down organic materials into a soil-like substance. This substance can then be used in gardens and landscaping projects to help improve soil quality.

The City of Beaumont operates a large item pickup program for residents who have large items that need to be disposed of. The program is free for residents and allows them to dispose of a variety of items, including furniture, appliances, and construction materials. The city offers a number of ways for residents to schedule a large item pickup, including online, by phone, or in person.

The City of Beaumont offers residents a number of tips on how to reduce their amount of garbage, and how to participate in the organics cart program. Some of these tips include:

- Composting your food scraps and yard waste instead of throwing them in the trash can help reduce your garbage output by up to 50%!

- Try to buy products that come packaged in recyclable materials whenever possible.

- Avoid using disposable items such as paper plates and plastic utensils.

- Participate in city-wide clean up days, or organize your own neighborhood clean up event.

By following these tips, residents can help to keep Beaumont clean and green!

For more information on the City of Beaumont's garbage collection program, please visit the city website or contact the city office.

Beaumont Garden Season is Almost Here!
Explore Beaumont - Spring is coming - and what a wonderful time to start thinking about the green! Especially when it’s -100 outside and dark for 20 hours a day. The sun will come up tomorrow - the days are getting longer and the sun will become warmer - and soon enough the snow will melt and it will be spring again! Time to start landscaping projects and planting seeds and planting gardens.

We’ve always had vegetable gardensin our yard. In our old house we built a set of 4 x 4 x 10 garden boxes raised from the ground so that the rabbits and the deer would steer clear. We love to plant care carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce, and all kinds of vegetables to enjoy throughout the season.

Last year while we were waiting for our landscaping to be done, we actually joined a CSA - a collective seasonal agreement - with Fifth Generation Gardens close to Beaumont. They offered door delivery weekly for 13 weeks during the harvest season, which we got by committing to payment upfront to help her with her season. We had farm fresh vegetables delivered every week! It was so fun to have a variety of vegetables - even some we’ve never discovered before or cooked with before.

She always included delicious recipes and new ideas of what to do with this abundance of delicious vegetables. We tried patty pan squash for the first time, garlic scrapes, and even had lots of beet greens for the first time, too! This year we are excited to have a fence built so that we can actually put up vertical garden boxes on the fence and garden to grow most of our own vegetables.

Over the winter we’ve had an aero garden inside the house for herbs and lettuce and fresh salads, but we’re really looking forward to getting outside in the sunshine! Just getting your hands dirty in the dirt, watering the plants, seeing them grow, and teaching the kids some self sustainability and 'eating what we’ve grown'. Nothing like seeing your three-year-old lift up a zucchini equally as tall as she is cutting it up and making zucchini bread that she subsequently gobbles up.

Last year in an effort to do some landscaping in the front and a small garden, we planted some vegetables from BMR greenhouses just south of Beaumont. They were very helpful and had lots of selection - and their own proprietary soil mix which grew great tomatoes. We just needed more sunshine!

We are also looking forward to picking up a couple of trees from Cheyenne tree farm this year, and going to check out nearby New Beginnings Greenhouse as well.

Are there any other gardening spots around town that you know of? Please let us know!

DID YOU KNOW?  There is also a plant and seed exchange group on Facebook in Beaumont where people will exchange different seeds or ask questions about gardening and pest control and how to grow things best here in the different climate and soil that we have here in Beaumont.

What a great place to share a collective love of gardening!

Beaumont Helping Hands

Explore Beaumont - Since we have moved here we have found everyone to be extremely friendly. Beaumont seems to have that small town vibe where neighbours are willing to come help you shovel your walks, or borrow tools, or even offer helpful suggestions of where to get your hair done or where to get your car fixed.

We’ve been very lucky to get to know our neighbours over the last year and despite COVID, everyone has been very kind and helpful if ever asked. Although it’s been difficult because we’ve been homeschooling and basically just going to work and isolating because of COVID, we’re looking forward to things opening up again and getting involved in kids sports and other community events to get to know more people around Beaumont.

In the meantime, we have noticed there is some INCREDIBLE helpful hands and initiatives taken up by community members to help each other out.

Did you know that at Central Circle there is the community food box? It’s there to help out if you Ever need help with your pantry. It’s regularly filled by donation of non-perishable goods and is there for the taking and giving. If you ever have extras in your pantry to donate for those in need please feel free to do so in the blue box at Central Circle Park and if you were ever in need of help please feel free to go take what you need.

There is a in Facebook group for Beaumont upcycling (Paying It Forward Beaumont) where nothing is bought and sold for money but rather given away. Items can be reused or recycled and given away for free to those in need. We love the idea of being able to reuse items that may be junk or garbage to one and can be somebody else’s treasure. We were able to pick up a bouncy castle with a quick repair on this Facebook group and this has been put up in the basement during this polar vortex to help keep the kids active and engaged on indoor days.

We’ve also started the explore Beaumont Snow Angels program so if you ever need help getting your driveway or sidewalks blown off we are happy to help please just send us a message and we will come by to do what we can.

Another shout out is to wok box here in Beaumont. We consistently see posts online where they are willing to help out families in need and if your hungry to go in and ask for a meal whether it’s a juice box or a small meal- what a fantastic way to help out the community and that no one should ever be hungry.

Fresh Bakery also regularly has day-old bread for free for those in need available with a purchase please check them out.

If you have friends or family doing good things in our community and are willing to share that information please send us a message and will throw a shout out on this page to get the word out for them.

Thanks - and keep being great neighbours Beaumont!

Beaumont Pet Licenses - Why They're So Important!

Explore Beaumont - We love our pets. When we first moved to Beaumont it seemed everyone had trucks and kids and dogs. We see dogs everywhere!

Although we don’t get out for many long walks or trips to the dog parks very often, we have a 13-year-old deaf pug named Zeus. He came to us as a giveaway who was about to be abandoned at the SPCA. We cleaned up his diet, took him to the vet got a yeast infection under control and got him back in shape. He doesn’t have many teeth left and he sleeps about 21 hours a day, but he is the most loyal dog we have ever had.

We also have a 13 year-old fat cat named Laser Cat, yes, after the SNL skit. If you haven't seen the video, just youtube search 'SNL Laser Cats' and you will understand the joke!  We keep him indoors only and when we moved to Beaumont, we  wanted to double check the rules on outdoor cats and pet licenses. We checked out www.Beaumont.ab.ca for details.

It is so handy to have a licence for your pet in case they ever get lost. The animal control in Beaumont was very responsive and helpful this summer when we needed help locating an owner for a lost pup in our neighbourhood. The owner was too! Just a situation where a child had forgotten to latch the gate in the yard, and....

Your annual pet license is coming up due next week. Payment due by Feb 15 yearly.

Pet Licence fees are as follows:

$30 for Spayed or Neutered Pets

$40 for Unspayed or Neutered Pets

*Free for Seniors aged 65 or older!  (The owners, not the petsWink)

Call 780-929-8782 for more information or see attached forms for registration.

What is the Best Pizza in Beaumont?

Explore Beaumont - Now let's get something out there right out of the gate.

We. Love. Pizza.

Everyone loves pizza.

And what's not to love? dough, cheese, sauce, meat, veggies, fruit (pineapple, anyone?), and pretty much anything you can imagine gets put on a pizza these days.

We were just a  teeeeensie bit worried about the options for pizza out in Beaumont when we moved. We quickly realized that we had a problem - but not the way you might think. Our problem ended up being that there were TOO many options to be able to choose just 1 from!

So, we decided to order each time at a different pizza place - from Papa Johns in the North all the way to Pizza Box and Panago to the South, and everywhere in between. We took this job seriously, consulting after each pizza was eaten to rank and order which ones we liked and which ones we didn't like. We compiled a list of 'Best Of' categories

Best Pizza in Beaumont

Best Pizza Value- There are a lot of good choices in this category, which is always great when you can get a deal on a  treat! Our favorite deals for our family were a tie between $7.99 for a medium 2 topper at Dominos. I would say that Pizza Hut's 2 For 1 Deal is the best value - which it is - but it is only a special on occasion.

Best Box Chain Pizza - The thing about Box Store Pizza is that you know what you're going to get when you order, and that it stays consistent from night to night, and location to location. That is kinda what we were taking into account when we judged this. We did note that there are a lot of Big Name Box Store Pizza places in Beaumont - Pizza Hut, Panago, Dominos, Boston Pizza, Papa Johns - and that we had a good knowledge of what to expect. Our winners here are Papa Johns and Pizza Hut

Best 'Mom & Pop' Pizza - Freshmaxxx/Unreal Pizza - Some of the best pizza I have ever eaten have been from Mom & Pop places that may do just pizza, or may do 5 other things AND pizza. So that type of environment is important. For us, the whole setup at Freshhmaxx/Unreal Pizza gives off that exact vibe. It reminds us of the times when neighborhood shops were King, and the corner store a hub of activity. Add to that an excellent pizza product, and it's a great combination!

Best Pizza Sauce - Boston Pizza. Always has been a favorite. Former employees have stated in the past that it is a blend of their pasta meat sauce and regular pizza sauce, but I'm not sure about that. What I do know is that I am not a sauce guy...until I had the pizza at BPs.I will also give honorable mention to Pizza Box - if you like a bit of a sweeter pizza sauce, this is for you!

Best Thick Pizza- Basilie's 2 for 1 Pizza wins this category. If you want a thick crust, over cheesed, pizza gut bomb that tastes so good that it's worth the risk, then this is the place to go. Bring napkins - and your appetite!

The Pizza We Ended Up Eating the Most - Pizza Box - Sometimes i's not just one great thing that makes a pizza place your favorite, it's a lot of good things combined. And that is why we have eaten from Pizza Box the most. Why? Well, the online ordering is fast, their cook time is fast, we really like the crust and the sweeter tomato sauce, the toppings are very good, and the prices are unbelieveably fair overall.

Where is your favorite pizza place in Beaumont?

Beaumont Snow Angels Program Helping Community Safety

Explore Beaumont -  Winter's icy grip has definitely hit Beaumont. Of course with that comes our fair share of snow. Every winter it's always interesting because in November and December when the snow falls, people get out there usually right away to shovel. But as December falls into January, people get a little tired of shoveling snow. This is especially true if there are extreme cold conditions.

That's where we come in! We are doing a ‘Beaumont Snow Sngels’ program this winter where we will come and do the public sidewalks, or your entire home's sidewalks, for free! All you have to do is contact us and we will try our best to get out as soon as we can.

Our first two weeks of this program have been very good. When we aren't contacted about entire sidewalks, we have been going out and walking up and down the public sidewalks in a few neighborhoods and just clearing off anything that hadn't already been done. We think this is as much as a service to the community to help create safe walking spaces as it is to help those who might be a little too busy to get it done right away, or who are unable to do it at all due to various circumstances. So far we have done about a 100 neighborhood homes public sidewalks to help making our families walks with our dogs or walks to school with our kids a little safer.

So why are we doing this?

When I was younger, I learned the importance of having clean and safe public sidewalks. As one of my part time jobs to make ends meet as a college student, for 3 Winters I was hired as a subcontractor to go out and shovel snow at 5 commercial sites or retail businesses. If there was snowfall at all on a certain day, I would get a telephone call at about 8 at night and was told to head out the next morning to shovel. It didn't matter what time I started, all that mattered was that by the end I had to be done all of my sites by no later than 7 a.m. So I often woke up at 2 or 3 in the morning to make sure I got the job done on time, until I figured out how to do the job as quickly as possible. I remember one January in particular where it's snowed 19 out of 21 days! By about the fifth or sixth day, my hands would be completely frozen shut when I woke up, and I would actually have to turn on the hot water tap in the bathroom with my elbows and let my hands soak in the hot water for a few minutes for them to be able to open. Shortly after I would be off to shovel again!

I saw the value in what I was doing on those cold mornings, and it felt good to know that I was prevents accidents, injuries, or worse. So that's why we're doing this!

How can you help?

  • If you know of someone who is having a hard time keeping up with the snow removal this year, and you think that they could use a little help, please contact me with the address and we will get out as much as we can to help out!
  • If you have a young person in your house who would like to get some work experience and volunteer hours, not to mention an excellent reference letter from US, we would also love you to contact us so that we can make arrangements for them to help make someone's winter a little easier!
  • You can help us get the word out about this program by sharing this on social media (using hashtag #beaumontsnowangels and my Facebook or Instagram handle) and letting your neighbours know about it as well.

Thanks for your support!

The 5 Best Places to Visit For People New to Beaumont

Explore Beaumont - One of the first things that we had to figure out once we moved out here to Beaumont was where to go and what to do with our family for together time. Now having the whole city shut down two weeks after you move to a new city is never ideal, so at first we really struggled with where we should head out to and where we should avoid. Luckily, my years of selling real estate in the city gave me pretty good background knowledge base from which to choose from and expand.

Having said that, I was surprised at how many of the places we visited that I thought would be great disappointed, and on the other hand how many of the places I didn't think would be good for us ended up being fantastic. I guess it just goes to show you that you have to try something to figure out if you like it or not.

Here is our list of top five places people new to Beaumont should try to start:

Chartier - It was our favourite French restaurant before we moved to Beaumont, and it's probably our favourite restaurant in Beaumont now that we've moved here. The food is amazing, and is equalled by the quality of service that is provided by the hard-working folks there. It has been amazing to watch this restaurant really evolve into community leaders during the covid-19 pandemic, putting their money where their mouths are and trying to stay viable in a very unviable time.

Four Seasons Park - This Sport and Recreation Area truly lives up to its name! No matter what season of the year, there are always multiple things to do at Four Seasons Park. In the summer you can play Frisbee golf or hit up the Splash Park. In the fall you can go for long walks along the trails. In the winter you can go skating on there Forest skating path, and in the springtime you can fish in the nearby stocked lake.

St Vital Church - The one true landmark in this fine City, and one of the enduring landmarks in all of Alberta, this church has been around for decades located at the very top of the hill in downtown Beaumont. Not only is the church there to serve spiritual needs, but the land around it is great for activities all year long. during the winter it is the number one place to go sledding or tobogganing, as long as you have a set of brakes to avoid hitting the hay bales down at the bottom of the hill. Easily the most photographed thing in our city, and for good reason!

Maina’s Donair - Another true Beaumont original,  this unassuming Donair shop recently won an online contest for the best Donair spot in all of the Edmonton and surrounding areas. They take care of you like your family. And it doesn't hurt that their donairs are unbelievable!

Painted Door on Main Gift & Gallery - This small local Gallery packs a big punch of local artisans, whimsical crafts, and gift shop favourites! You can find everything from handmade cards two stained glass art, to paintings and photography, to local history and treats. A great place to pick up a gift or 4!

Explore Beaumont 'Kids Draw Beaumont' Contest Makes the News

Explore Beaumont - Over the extended Holiday break, school aged kids can become bored. If you a parent, you already know that, right?

After the gifts have been opened, the treats and festive meals consumed, and some of the toys and video games have been played, there's usually the dreaded chorus of 'We're Bored' coming from kids' mouths.

We here at Explore Beaumont thought it would be a fun idea to help get rid of those doldrums while at the same time allowing our kids to show pride in their community.

The result?

Our 'Kids Draw Beaumont' contest!

We were very happy to see the connection this made to a lot of the kids in the community, and some of the artwork was truly great!

We gave out prizes to our 'winner' (done through a random draw) and also nice participation gifts to everyone who took the time and energy to participate.

But we were more than pleased when we were approcahed by Emily at Postmedia to do an interview about the contest, Explore Beaumont, and the great young artists we have in our city.

It gave us all the warm fuzzies - and made our winners into local celebrities with their pictures in the paper!

Beaumont - A Move Years in the Making

Explore Beaumont - About three years ago my wife and I knew that we needed to make a change in life. We had two daughters at home, changing responsibilities and roles within our household, and it became clear that we could no longer stay where we were staying at the time and be able to enjoy our children, our lifestyle, and our business as much as we wanted. My wife, being from St. Albert, automatically asked but that be a consideration,. I was not interested in that as I hade always lived in Edmonton and really didn't want to move to a smaller centre. I had, however, sold quite a few homes out in Beaumont over the years, and I would always say to myself as I was leaving that if I were ever going to move to a smaller populated place, that Beaumont would be it. I don't know what it was, but I do know that it was something very obvious to me.

As we became more dedicated in our decision to move, we started to do research. I mean, a lot of research. Having a realtor in the household helps a lot when it comes to showing places, and we did take advantage of that. We were unsure if we wanted to make the big jump out to Beaumont or if we still wanted to maybe stay and some of the newer areas of South Edmonton. After a little time researching and considering, it became very obvious that Beaumont was the place to move to.

Fast forward a couple of years, and we were still living in our home in Edmonton, with a 3rd daughter now in tow, and we were still trying to move to Beaumont. At this point we were just looking for the right fit for a home, and we had tried and failed on six or seven occasions to write offers successfully on a property. Yes, this happens even to real estate agents sometimes! But we were patient, and in late 2019 we came across a property that fit quite a few of our criteria. Now as with all home buyers, we didn't get absolutely everything that we wanted. But it was more than enough to be able to make the decision .

Late this past February, we moved into our home not knowing any of our neighbours or much of anyone in the city outside of clients and friends who I have worked with in the past. My children got all of 10 days of schooling before the pandemic closed down the schools and so it was very interesting in 2020, trying to adjust to living in a new city while also going through these crazy times.

The stories that will come is based from this experience, from a place of curiosity, adventure, a little anxiety, and all of the other good things that come  when you move to a new place. And not any new place. But a place that as quickly accepted us and made us feel as though this is home.

So let's explore Beaumont together!
