Explore Beaumont - One of the thnigs we have LOVED about moving to Beaumont is all of the dogs that are in our community! When we moved here we had our aging Pug Zeus, who has recently been joined by 2 more pugs Winston and Gizmo. Our personal favorite in our neighborhood (outside of our 3 fur babies) is defintely Daisy, a 1 year old larger breed dog that lives a few houses down from us. What a sweetheart!
The one thing we struggled with since we have moved is getting our dogs to enjoy themselves in the City off leash dog park, which has been moved a round a few times in the past couple of years due to the expansion of the Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre. After a few attempts at it, we found that the space provided wasn't a good fit for our pups to roam around freely AND safely.
....and then, good news!
On September 1, 2020 Beaumont City Council held a special meeting where they voted to build a new off leash dog park and 4 field baseball/softball complex. This new recreation area will be located along Township Road 505 (50 Ave) just west of Range Road 243 on what is currently agricultural land. Then in January of this year, City Council voted tohave administration look into the viability of expanding the size of the off leash area even more.
Why is this a good thing? There are a lot of good reasons. It provides dogs an opportunity to interact with other dogs in a way that expends a lot of energy - which will allow them to be more regulated and less anxious when they are at home and in their yards. This could also result in less dog barking at every little sound that happens around the house - which is good for those who own dogs and those who go for walks around their neighborhood. Because who wants to hear dogs barking at them when they are trying to go out for a relaxing evening stroll in the summer?
It also allows dog owners to socialize and share the common bond of pet ownership -which strengthens our connections as Beaumontonians and dog owners. And depending on the size and layout of the area, it can also provide another space in our city for people to get some leisurely exercise by walking around the area while their dog plays!
Constrcution will begin as the ground thaws this Spring - and we will be updating you with construction photos and finalized plans once they become public.
Our family looks forward to meeting you and your dogs at the new Beaumont off leash dog park very soon!
