Tips to Stay Warm During Cold Beaumont Winters
Explore Beaumont- Winter is a beautiful thing, but it can also be dangerous. When snow falls from the sky, you might not realize that it could cause power outages and other issues. Those who live in Beaumont with heavy snowfall know all too well what happens to their electricity during winter storms. Winter storms can also lead to road closures and accidents due to lack of visibility on roads covered by piles of snow. As winter progresses, many people around town dread the cold weather and snow. While winter can be a beautiful time of year, it can also be dangerous. Snowfall can cause car accidents and road closures, and it makes driving difficult. In addition, many children find the cold weather to be uncomfortable.

Beaumont Cold Weather Tips

Here are some tips to help you stay warm in and around Beaumont:

1. Dress appropriately for the weather - Before you head outside, get dressed in several layers of clothing. Make sure there is a base layer next to your skin and then add long sleeves and pants on top of that if you're going outside. It is important to ensure that none of your skin is exposed when you step out into Alberta's cold temperatures. Even one small area could cause frostbite or hypothermia according to Alberta Health Services . If you must be outdoors for an extended period of time, make sure you keep moving so blood flows correctly and keeps the body warm.

2. Keep active indoors during Alberta blizzards - If possible, play games indoors with friends or family members to keep active. If you are not able to go outside due to Alberta's blizzard conditions, that is okay. Instead, stay busy in the house. Cleaning can be a great way to avoid being cooped up inside for too long when Alberta blizzards are creating dangerous driving conditions outside.

3. Be safe - While Beaumont winters can be beautiful, they also tend to include heavy snowfall and cold temperatures which have the potential to cause power outages and road closures during Alberta blizzards . Stay inside when Alberta blizzards are occurring so your home does not lose electricity during winter storms. Do not leave the house until Alberta's weather report indicates it is safe enough to drive in Alberta.

Should Beaumont be Renamed 'Blowmont'?
Explore Beaumont - The one surprise that I had moving to Beaumont was the weather. Most people would assume that the weather would be the same basically as it is in Edmonton. Wrong! Before I moved to Beaumont, I associated Beaumont with all the lovely lakes and ponds scattered throughout the city. After almost 2 years living in Beaumont, I now think of the wind; it's howling, whistling voice against homes and trees scratching at fences and siding like skeletal hands trying to get inside.

Should Beaumont be Renamed 'Blowmont'?

Beaumont is Canada's windiest city with an average wind speed of 16.4 km/h. The winter months are especially windy, where I've seen the daily high average around 5 to 10km/h above the already high yearly average. There is nothing quite like waking up at 7 AM in Beaumont, the sun has barely risen and you're still wrapped up in your warm comforters, drifting between sleep and wakefulness when suddenly you hear a loud rattling sound coming from your window. Suddenly you realize that it's not only your house that's making this awful racket, but everyone else's as well because this kind of weather creates a symphony of noise echoing through the streets .

Wind speeds can reach extreme values at certain times during the winter. In Beaumont, Canada's windiest city, gusts as high as 138 km/h have been recorded on the coldest days of the year. When it is colder, there are stronger winds. This is because the air pressure is higher when it's cold.Wind speeds normally decrease significantly at night and through out the early hours of the morning into late morning. The average wind speed during these times are around 10km/h lower than they were during peak winds in the afternoon and evening.

Wind speeds in Beaumont normally peak in the late afternoon and early evening. This is because when temperatures rise, air pressure decreases which creates stronger winds .

What I have learned in Beaumont in the past 2 winters is the weather here can be tricky; one moment you're putting your hat on, scarf and coat ready to brave the cold, another minute later the wind changes direction and you find yourself running back into the house and slamming the door shut, breathing heavily and looking outside with disbelief at how quick the weather can change.
